JROTC – Military Science
JROTC/Military Science is an elective program offered to high school students*. Students who participate in JROTC are not required to join the military after high school, and the program is not a military preparation class. Students are introduced to the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, JROTC.
Curriculum and basic U.S. citizenship rights and responsibilities are established and reinforced. Students learn leadership, history, communication techniques, disciplined study habits, management skills, first aid, drug abuse prevention, map reading, physical fitness, and workplace readiness skills. Military customs and courtesies, proper uniform wear, and personal appearance guidelines are followed within the leadership lab, drill, and military ceremonies. JROTC has been called the largest youth training and development program in the U.S.
Enrolling
Students can enroll in a JROTC program if offered at their home school.
A variance can be requested only if a student’s zoned high school does not offer a JROTC program. The variance will be to the closest high school from the student’s home address that offers a program.
