Virginia course title: Precision Machining Technology I, Precision Machining Technology II.

For a rewarding and challenging career that combines creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills, consider precision machining technology. Precision machining technology is the process of creating precise and accurate parts and products using various machines and tools. Precision machinists work in a variety of industries, such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and manufacturing, and are in high demand in today’s competitive and innovative market.

Precision Machining Technology introduces students to the world of machining technology. Students learn how to properly lay out and produce projects through a combination of lectures and hands-on instruction. The first year emphasizes the safe use and operation of the drill press, lathe, and milling machines.

In the second-year class, students continue to develop the fundamentals of machining skills learned during the first year and are introduced to more advanced machinery skills and the basics of computer numerical control. With the approval and recommendation of the teacher, students may spend time in actual work experiences in a machining company during the second semester.

Students have the opportunity to become certified in:

  • Measurement, Materials, and Safety

  • Workplace-Readiness
